What we consider before using anonymous sources.
How do the sources know the knowledge? What is their motivation for telling us? Have they proven their reliability before? Can we corroborate the knowledge? Even with these happy questions, The Instances uses anonymous sources as a last resort. The journalist and no less than an editor know the identification of the offer.

Mr. Corcoran and Ms. Bobb confirmed that Mr. Bratt and his staff contained material that Mr. Trump had taken from the White House and which had been kept in storage, the people said.

According to two people briefed on the departure, Mr. Bratt and his team came away with more classified tagged material, and at that time also obtained a written statement from a Trump lawyer stating that all classified tagged material in the bins had been returned.
