New lawyers sign a list of lawyers at SC

Passers of the 2020-2021 online bar exams who were sworn in as new lawyers last May 2 began flocking to the Supreme Court (SC) in Manila on Thursday May 5 to sign the list of lawyers, the latest step to achieve this. they could practice their profession in the country.

Signing the Roll of Attorneys, the official list of people licensed to practice law in the country, is the final step to becoming a full lawyer. The first three steps are to earn a law degree, pass the bar, and take the attorney’s oath.

Based on a notice published by the SC Bar Office (OBC), the signing dates and locations are:

National Capital Region and Luzon — May 4-24, 2022 and June 6-17, 2022; 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; SC on Padre Faura Street, Ermita, Manila.

Visayas — May 30, 2022 to June 3, 2022; 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Social Hall, 2nd Floor, IBP Building, East Side, Capitol Compound, Escario Street, Cebu City, Cebu.

Mindanao — May 26-28, 2022; 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Conference Hall, West Wing, Hall of Justice, Masterson Avenue at the corner of PN Roa Street, Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City (near SM Uptown).

The OBC said that “only those who have received clearance and attended the swearing-in ceremony will be permitted to sign the panel of attorneys.”

He said those who sign the role “are allowed to have a maximum of two guests who are required to wear formal attire and a face mask inside the venue, and those who choose to wear their national costumes will be allowed”.

He also said: “They are encouraged to bring their vaccination card or vaccination certificate and pens. In the event that a rapid antigen test is required at the venue upon entry, successful bar candidates and their guests must submit to their rapid antigen test and pay the necessary fee to the Supreme Court Cashier or his representative . The rapid antigen test will start at 6am”

New lawyers “are required to bring two valid identification cards, a printed copy of the authorization email sent by the OBC with a stamp as proof that the successful candidates to the bar attended the ceremony of taking the oath, and a digital copy of the photograph showing his presence, if possible.

New lawyers must pay 3,750 pesos for bar admission fees; P100, bar certification fee; and P350, solicitor identification fee. The fee for the rapid test is 550 PK per person.

All attorneys are mandated to be members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), the country’s official bar association. The OBC said that “payment of IBP dues in the amount of ₱2,200 can be paid to IBP staff who will be present when the roll is signed”.
